Get hands-on with history and fire your imagination as we encourage visitors to interact with our exhibitions, climb aboard some of our vehicles, get dressed up, solve the mysteries, listen and watch as our exhibitions are brought to life with projections and stories. Take some time to sit and relax. Just make sure to explore, discover, learn and, most importantly, have fun! The museum is housed in a Victorian building, so please click below for more information about accessibility before visiting.

Due to the age of the building access into and around some areas can be limited. NESM uses lights, sounds, smoke and smells to bring history to life...

Our historic building is old and can be unusually cold in some areas. Just imagine what it would have been like in the winter for prisoners who would have occupied our cells.

Gift Aid...

Did you know the NESM is a charity? This means that UK taxpayers can make a massive difference to charities like us!
