Throughout the year we host a wide variety of events aimed at all ages from smaller weekend events to large events with live music and a vast array of activities.

Arms and Armour

Explore, Discover, Learn and Play with our collection. Meet armed Police Officers from South Yorkshire Police and get the opportunity to see the equipment they use. Find out more about this event.

Everyday Superheroes


Come face to face with real life Super Heroes from every day Emergency Services to super heroes of the sky, water and of the animal world. Jump onboard our Fire Engine and discover what it would be like rushing to an incident. 

Steamers and Scallywags


Enjoy a subgenre of science fiction and science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery and get the chance to see a working steam fire engine in full steam.

Mega Machines 


Explore some true Mega Machines and learn how they are used by the emergency services.  Something a little different visitors will get the opportunity to see exhibits not normally on public display as well as being able to get up close and personal to some of our normal exhibits. 

Mobs & Murder

RESCHEDULED FOR 2021!Come and learn about the hidden history of Sheffield’s gang wars in a building that was at the heart of it all, from costumed storytelling to a recreated pub, this event will be fun for all the family. Explore the original Police cells that housed infamous gang members like George Mooney and Sam Garvin, learn about the brutal war between one of the first specialised flying squads and the all-powerful gangs that ran the city of Sheffield and be taken back in time to the dark...

Collectors' fair and off site store open event


Join collectors and enthusiasts from around the country as we host our yearly  collectors fair and special opening of the museums vast off site store.

This event is not hosted at the museum itself, please contact us to book onto this event or to book a stall at the collectors fare.

Event open from 09:00 - 14:00, refreshments available

Villainous Victorians

Step through NESM’s Victorian doors and delve deep into its past with live actors, historical interpretation, games, storytelling, entertainment and much more!

Wartime Christmas


Celebrate the festive season with live music and dance, crafts, living history displays, reenactors, fire engine rides and so much more!

Meet and greet Father Christmas in his 1940s Grotto, get truly hands-on with history as this event will fire the imagination of visitors young and young at heart.

Get the full family involved and come dressed up in your 1940s best!
